How To: 3 HOT Summer Wedding Styles

What bridal hairstyles will we be seeing in 2014?  There were a lot of great hairstyles that graced the runways at Bridal Fashion Week 2014 and I picked three genres I thought would be wearable for this coming summer season.  I drew inspiration from Alberta FerrettiRomona Keveza, and Jenny Packham.  Braids (of all types!), ornate ponytails, and voluminous hair.  So let's begin!

Before starting any upstyle, it is essential the hair has enough product in it to accomplish and maintain a long lasting hair style.  If we were to put hair on a scale from 0, being the softest, most pliable hair to a level 10, being unruly with no pliability, we want the hair to be a level 7.  Our model Elizabeth had clean, dry, level 5 hair before we began.  To bring her to a level 7, I would use Aquage Sea Extend Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner to wash, Uplifting Foam to blow her hair out from wet to dry, and Beyond Body to iron her hair out straight or add curls.  Now her hair is ready for an undo.  I cannot stress enough how important these "prepping steps" are.   Throughout every step of styling, I constantly spray the hair with Biomega Firm & Fabulous Hairspray from 8-10 inches away to add hold and control flyways.

STYLE | 1 | Side Fishtail Braid

Create a horseshoe section at the top of the head and pin out of the way.  Starting on the right side of the head, grab a small section at the top front part the section to create a fishtail braid.   As you braid, add small sections wrapping around the head from the back side of the braid only.  Be sure to be directing your braid to the front of the shoulder as you are going.

Leave a section out at the bottom to create another fishtail braid.  When you create this braid, you will start on the left side of the head, only add from the bottom side of the braid.  Be sure to direct it towards the front to join the other braid.  Clip those two braids temporarily at the bottom.

Let the top section down that was pinned out of the way.  Create a french braid fishtail braid.  For volume, be sure to elevate the braid as you're going.  Continue braiding until you meet up with the other two braids on the right side of the head.

Take the three braids and allow the ends to unbraid a little so you can create one big fishtail braid draping over the right shoulder.  Use a small clear elastic to tie the ends or take a small section of the hair, wrap around the ends, spray with Aquage Transforming Spray and flatiron to create an "elastic" with your hair.   And here is your finished style.

After smoothing & controlling, drape the section over the center where the two french twists join.  You can either leave it as is or add a few bobby pins to secure the pony in.  And here is your finished style.

STYLE | 3 | Voluminous Faux Bob

Backcomb and brush the top of the hair into place.  Part a small section starting on the side of the head with the least amount of hair.  Subdivide that section into two and twist the two sections together loosely to the ends.

Repeat around the circumference of the head, making sure not to part the hair too far up to create part lines in the hairstyle.  Add bobby pins and hair pins to secure sections together as needed.  And here is your finished style.
